Ti Chang

Ti Chang (born 1979)  is an industrial designer, activist, and conceptual artist who deliberately moves between the worlds of art and design. Ti is a Taiwanese-American immigrant who received her Masters from the Royal College of Art, Design Products in 2007.

Ti creates unexpected juxtapositions through her designed objects that aesthetically explore identity, feminism, and cultural norms by blending art, activism, and design. As an established industrial designer she is known for elevating intimacy products with her groundbreaking pleasure jewelry; best known for her Vesper vibrator necklace launched in 2014 which has and continues to change the cultural conversation of pleasure.

Ti speaks all around the globe on design, creativity, and entrepreneurial-focused stages such as SXSW, PopTech, AIGA, and HOW Design. She has collaborated with Madonna as well as Saint Laurent on limited editions of her pleasure jewelry. She has exhibited her work internationally and is excited to be a first-time exhibitor for NYCxDesign.

“Vanity of Self” is a glimpse into getting ready; where focus on self is a daily, radical act of personal expression and self-admiration; akin to an artist at their easel. “Vanity of Self” is a conceptual take on the notions of self-worth, self-care, and the subconscious influence of everyday objects.  The artwork invites individuals to ponder these questions for themselves, to 'see themselves' and their actions in the work, or not. The material further asks the questions of self-permanence, distorted reflections, and the goals of feeling worthy through our own expression.

I created this conceptual installation to reflect on my experience as an Asian immigrant raised in the deep South. Public art education was formative in my life. Art class was my sanctuary and where I gained a sense of self-worth and confidence.
